We are pleased to invite you to the next session of our MEDIT Alumni Speaker Series. This week, we will be hosting Dr. Evren Belkız, a PhD graduate of our institute, who will share insights from her doctoral research.
Her presentation, titled “Reassessing Charron’s Wisdom through Kınalızāde’s Intellectual Legacy,” explores Pierre Charron’s concept of wisdom in De la Sagesse through the conceptual lens offered by Kınalızāde Ali Çelebi in Ahlāk-ı Alāī. By bringing these two near-contemporary accounts into dialogue, her study highlights the intellectual affinities that illuminate Charron’s attempt to formulate an autonomous ethical framework. Situating Charron within a tradition informed by Kınalızāde also underscores the interpretive richness of Islamic intellectual heritage for understanding key transformations in early modern Western thought.
