We’re happy to invite you to a talk by our guest researcher Dries Ver Elst, who will deliver an insight into his PhD research around restrictive understandings of religious/political citizenship titled “They do (not) care: Volunteers and employees at faith-based organisations in Flanders challenging dominant notions of political citizenship”
Based on empirical research on faith-based organisations in Flanders, Belgium, this talk will challenge the limitations of much of the academic literature in understanding the interplay between religion and political citizenship. We will explore how looking at uncommon political practices, the role of religious civil society, power dynamics, and the interplay between theology and the social sciences can deepen our grasp of political participation in contemporary Flanders and beyond.
