We are pleased to announce the first talk of this year’s MEDIT Fall Colloquium 2025. In the opening session of our colloquium series, Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz will deliver a lecture titled “Understanding Capitalism through the Social Sciences: Possibilities and Limitations in the Case of Economics.”
In this talk, Prof. Yılmaz will approach capitalism not merely as an economic system, but as a multi-layered civilizational phenomenon that shapes human relations, moral orientations, and global structures. His lecture will explore both the explanatory power and the epistemological limits of the social sciences in understanding capitalism, inviting us to reconsider the possibilities of economics in interpreting the modern world.
