We are happy to invite you to our MEDIT Research Colloquium with Asst. Prof. Florence Ollivry (Ibn Haldun University) on Tuesday, 3 November at 14.00 at Süleymaniye Salis Madrasa.

What can the cry of a dove, the milk of cattle or a butterfly rushing into the flame teach a believer? For the twelfth-century Andalusian scholar Ibn Barrajān of Seville, quite a lot. In his Qur'anic commentaries, the natural world becomes a book to be read alongside revelation, and animals appear as signs, as teachers and even as figures of piety.

Dr. Ollivry will first introduce the newly published volume Cosmic and Animal Piety in Islam: Everything Glorifies God, and then present her chapter on Ibn Barrajān's tafsīr and his contemplative reading of the natural world. The talk will be followed by discussion and Q&A.

The event is open to the public, so please feel free to share it with anyone who might be interested. We look forward to seeing you there.
