Short Biography

He completed his undergraduate education at Istanbul University, Department of Sociology. He completed his master's degree with the thesis "Cultural Alienation in the Second Constitutional Period and Today" and his doctorate with the thesis "The Conception of ‘the East’ and ‘the West’ in the Second Constitutional Period Turkish Thought: The cases of İctihad and Sırat-ı Müstakim journals". As an associate professor in the fields of Politics, Religion, and Sociology of Change, IŞIK lectures on subjects such as "Issues of the Ottoman-Turkish Modernisation Experience", "Contemporary Islamic Thought", "Said Halim Pasha", "Mehmed Âkif", "Religion and Society in the Modern World", "The Question of Civilisation".

He prepared the "Islamic Journals Project: From 1908 to 2008", which includes collecting the journals that constitute one of the most important channels of the Islamic heritage of the century on a digital platform. He is still a consultant for this project. He is conducting readings and a project on "Literature on Civilisation Debates in Tanzimat Period Periodicals" with a group of students.

He has many articles, book chapters, and books published. He is a member of the UNESCO National Committee Specialised Committee on the Rapprochement of Cultures and the Board of Trustees of Istanbul Commerce University. He is currently working as a lecturer and Institute Director at Ibn Haldun University, Alliance of Civilisations Institute.
